UPS alarm or battery warning

UPS alarm, battery warning or beeping UPS. Quick checks for franchisees, when replacement is recommended, and which Eaton UPS model to order.

UPS alarm or battery warning

If the UPS in your Prison Island cabinet is beeping or showing a warning, first check whether the site currently has normal mains power.

If there is a power outage, the UPS alarm is expected while it is running on battery. The warning should normally clear once mains power returns.

If mains power is available

Please check:

  • The UPS power cable is firmly connected.

  • The wall socket or power source is switched on.

  • The UPS display for any battery or service warning.

  • Do not disconnect or power off the server or network equipment.

UPS batteries gradually lose capacity and typically provide reliable backup for around 3 to 5 years. If the UPS continues to show a battery or service alarm while mains power is available, replacement of the complete UPS is normally recommended.

Replacement UPS

Current Prison Island rack standard:

Eaton 5P 650i Rack 1U G2
Model: 5P650IRG2

A replacement can be ordered through the Franchisee Hub, or the same model can be purchased locally.

If the alarm remains and you are unsure what it means, send Prison Island Support a clear photo of the UPS display/front panel together with the approximate age of the UPS.

This usually gives us the information needed without additional troubleshooting.
